Strap in: Jerry Seinfeld will drink… your… cereal milk. He’ll drink it up! Or one thing to that impact, anyway – the legendary comic is making his characteristic directorial debut with Unfrosted, a movie about (of all issues) the origin of Pop-Tarts; the beloved toaster pastry that crashed onto the breakfast scene within the ‘60s. And this being a Jerry Seinfeld movie, it’s going to be full of stars and comedians (Hugh Grant as Tony The Tiger, anybody?), and allusions to a few of the biggest movies of all time – together with none apart from There Will Be Blood. Oh, and The Godfather.
“Do you keep in mind the scene in The Right Stuff the place Jeff Goldblum and Harry Shearer are operating down the corridor, and so they burst into the darkened boardroom and so they go, ‘It’s known as… Sputnik!’? That’s what this film is,” Seinfeld tells Empire, teasing the imaginative and prescient. Quite how Francis Ford Coppola’s mafia masterpiece and Paul Thomas Anderson’s oil story issue into issues, stays to be seen. “We steal from each film we might consider as a result of we love films,” causes Seinfeld.
The different key affect? Mad Men, whose company ‘60s setting performs closely into the Pop-Tarts origin story. “I’m obsessive about that present. That, blended with the dumbness of the cereal world – , stuffy executives discussing tarts and flakes and frosting – simply struck me as a enjoyable world to be in,” he says.
