Western Digital and Kioxia reportedly planning merger

Back in 2019, Toshiba Memory spun off into its personal firm and rebranded as Kioxia. In 2021, rumours of a possible merger with Western Digital emerged however nothing ever got here of it. Now, those self same rumours are spinning up once more. 

According to Japan Times, WD and Kioxia have been holding merger talks for months with the goal of reaching a ultimate settlement in August. The deal would see WD spin off its flash enterprise to merge with Kioxia, in keeping with sources stated to be accustomed to the matter.

Combined, Kioxia and Western Digital would show to be an enormous rival to Samsung, one other large within the NAND and reminiscence markets. If the merger does go forward, Kioxia executives will proceed to run the enterprise, the report claims.
