Tim Allen simply spilled the tea — or somewhat, the toy field — a few fifth installment to the beloved Toy Story movie collection, per The Wrap.
On Tuesday’s night time’s episode of The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon requested Allen if the rumors of a Toy Story 5 had been true, to which he replied that Disney CEO Bob Iger “stated it was on.”
“They have reached out to Tom [Hanks] and I to reprise the roles,” he shared. “They’re not saying something about it.”
While the primary Toy Story movie debuted in 1995, the latest movie, Toy Story 4, hit theaters in June 2019.
“You surprise if 4 [films] was too many, is 5 gonna be an excessive amount of,” he contemplated.
However, he famous that “the author who’s doing it wrote one of many higher ones.”
“And he stated, ‘If I didn’t get this proper, I wouldn’t do it,’” Allen recalled. “So it could possibly be a really, very fascinating strategy to reunite it.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, Iger introduced plans for not solely a Toy Story sequel, but in addition sequels to Frozen and Zootopia throughout a quarterly earnings name in February, deeming it “an awesome instance of how we’re leaning into our unequalled manufacturers and franchises.”
While Allen’s Buzz Lightyear is a Pixar staple, the long-lasting character was voiced by Chris Evans in a Toy Story prequel outlining the house ranger’s origin story, Lightyear, which launched into theaters in June 2022 and made simply north of $50.57 million in its opening weekend, per IMDb, on its strategy to dropping over $100 million for the studio.
Lightyear director Angus MacLane justified this option to Vanity Fair, explaining that Evans had “the gravitas and that movie-star high quality that our character wanted to separate him and the film from Tim’s model of the toy in Toy Story.”
Allen advised Extra that the movie had “nothing to do” along with his Buzz, and claimed “a complete new crew that actually [had] nothing to do with the primary motion pictures” was behind it.
“And as Hanks and I — there’s actually no Toy Story Buzz with out Woody,” he highlighted.
Hanks, whose movie Elvis hit theaters per week after Lightyear, advised CinemaBlend that he “really needed to go head-to-head with Tim Allen after which they didn’t let Tim Allen do it.”
“I don’t perceive that,” he added.
