Lourdes Portillo, Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker, dies aged 80

Lourdes Portillo, the Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker, has died on the age of 80.

The Mexican director, producer and author, maybe finest identified for the 1986 movie The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, handed away in her San Francisco house.

Portillo was identified for her daring filmmaking fashion that confronted points round race, sexuality and social justice, and sometimes featured tales and experiences of Latin American, Mexican and Chicano tradition.

In addition to her in depth work in documentary options, Portillo went on to achieve a repute within the worlds of video set up and screenwriting, and in addition labored in investigative journalism and visible artwork.
