Former Turkish crypto CEO Faruk Fatih Özer of Thodex has been sentenced to jail for over 11,000 years.

Believe it or not, that is apparently lenient as prosecutors had allegedly requested a sentence of 40,562 years. Though once you’re speaking a couple of sentence longer than recorded historical past, it most likely doesn’t a lot matter if it’s 11 or 40 thousand.

Thodex, a Turkey based mostly crypto change went offline in April 2021. With its closure, over 400,000 customers misplaced a mixed $2 billion in property that have been now firmly within the management of Özer.

Özer was reportedly arrested in Albania in 2022 and his sentencing was simply handed down earlier this month.

Cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and different tried monetary applied sciences have been on the middle of controversies lately. These vary from Crypto CEOs resembling Sam Bankman-Fried operating off with cash in an analogous case, to NFTs being equated to “pump and dump” schemes.
