‘The Sound of Music’ Rights Acquired for Indian Movie ‘Music School’

The rights of three songs from iconic 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “The Sound of Music” have been acquired by Indian movie “Music School.”

The musical was tailored as a 1965 movie by Robert Wise, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, which went on to win 5 Oscars and in addition had two stay tv diversifications – on NBC in 2013 and ITV in 2015.

“Music School” is directed by Indian civil service officer-turned filmmaker Paparao Biyyala, who has obtained the rights for 3 songs from “The Sound of Music” – “Do Re Mi,” “So Long Farewell” and “Sixteen Going on Seventeen.” Veteran Indian composer Ilaiyaraaja has recreated the songs together with the London Philharmonic Orchestra to go well with the sensibilities of an Indian viewers.

“Music School” offers with the educational strain confronted by younger college students from society, dad and mom and academics. The movie has eleven songs in all. Some of the songs are choreographed by the U.Okay.’s Adam Murray (“Rocketman”) whereas the others are by Indian veterans Chinni Prakash (“Hum”) and Raju Sundaram (“Gentleman”). Cinematography is by Kiran Deohans (“Jodhaa Akbar”).

The forged contains Shriya Saran, Sharman Joshi and Prakash Raj in main roles, along with debutant Ozu Barua and Gracy Goswamy in key roles. Benjamin Gilani, Suhasini Mulay, Mona Ambeognkar, Leela Samson, Bugs Bhargava, Vinay Varma, Sreekanth Iyengar, Vaquar Sheikh and Phani are additionally a part of the forged.

Produced by Yamini Films, the movie is shot within the Hindi and Telugu languages and has a dubbed Tamil-language model. PVR Pictures will launch the Hindi model and Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Creations the Telugu and Tamil variations on May 12.
