Daniel Craig retired from his position as James Bond after the discharge of No Time to Die in 2021, and the 007 collection’ producers have been on the seek for somebody who can substitute him since final summer time. While reviews have already swirled a few youthful Bond, it will doubtless be somebody of their 30s or older, and the collection casting director lately defined why a 007 in his 20s would not work.

In an interview with RadioTimes, casting director Debbie McWilliams stated the age restrict for the position of James Bond began in 2006 when male actors of their 20s had been auditioning for Casino Royale, together with Henry Cavill, who was 22 on the time. She and director Martin Campbell stated Cavill, now 39, and the opposite actors in his age group did not land the lead position as a result of they lacked gravitas and expertise. In different phrases, they had been too younger.

“We did have a look at a variety of youthful actors, and I simply do not assume they’d the gravitas, they did not have the expertise, they did not have the psychological capability to take it on, as a result of it isn’t simply the half they’re taking over, it is a large duty,” McWilliams stated. “So we sort of scrubbed that concept and went again to the drafting board and began once more.”

The solely actor who landed the half in Casino Royale was then-38-year-old Craig, and he performed James Bond for 15 years ever since.

Before No Time to Die was launched, different actors 30 and older tried auditioning for the position of James Bond, together with Idris Elba (50), Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page (34), Tom Hardy (45), Sam Heughan (42), and Bullet Train’s Aaron Taylor-Johnson (32). Elba and Hardy have since been dominated out to play the MI6 agent.
