Big Easy Queens is a knowingly absurd and enjoyable piece of camp from author Robert Leleux and director Erynn Dalton. It principally operates as a comedy because it mixes components of mob thrillers, zombie horror, and musicals collectively. Dalton’s movie overcomes its funds limitations with loads of angle and persona.

Eric Swanson performs Minnie Bouvèé, a drag queen who runs a mob outfit in New Orleans. She has a rivalry with a fellow queen named Poodles (Jennifer McClain). The two get caught up in a sticky scenario and suspect one another as soon as Minnie’s sister, Mimi (Benjamin Shaevitz), and a mysterious masked determine arrive. Minnie is additional confused as to why the scent of gardenias appears to be following her.

The convoluted plot of Big Easy Queens is basically simply an excuse for these entertaining characters to bounce off of one another. Swanson and Shaevitz have terrific chemistry as Minnie and Mimi kind of try and restore their relationship. McClain is the true standout, although, offering a hilariously over-the-top antagonist in Poodles. Alexander Zenoz is much less efficient than Minnie’s right-hand Giuseppe, although he does get a while to shine within the third act as soon as his character begins to play a bigger position.

“Swanson performs Minnie Bouvèé, a drag queen who runs a mob outfit in New Orleans…”

Dalton’s movie is noticeably low-cost in presentation. The inexperienced display screen results are beginner, and the horror make-up (the plot finds time for voodoo and zombies) is simply okay. The movie has restricted units as effectively; it was shot in Florida regardless of happening in Louisiana. Dalton retains issues shifting, although, and sometimes has the characters in locations with colourful lighting and easy jazz enjoying within the background.

Leleux’s screenplay has amusing verbal exchanges all through, and the characters are clearly outlined. Some of the exposition dumps within the third act are overlong, although. The script can also’t appear to resolve what style it needs to stay with.

Big Easy Queens is a large number of concepts, however it has a number of ardour behind it. The movie comes alive with its musical numbers and character interactions. Even although there are moments that fall flat, Dalton’s movie put a smile on my face.
