A Current Affair has been cleared of a grievance about invasion of privateness when a March 2022 story of an employment dispute included a reporter interviewing an employer on the veranda of their house.

The Employer made a grievance that ACA “trespassed into my non-public again backyard in Hobart… and upstairs onto my non-public again veranda at 8am within the morning to catch me off guard and push a digicam into my face. [ACA Reporter] was conscious that as a non-public citizen I had no preparation or media coaching and can be unable to supply any readability or defence.”

They continued, “Please advise the place it was within the public curiosity to enter my non-public again yard and enter my non-public again veranda with out my permission to catch me as a non-public citizen off guard at 8am within the morning? You then edited the footage to probably the most disparaging impact.”

However the Australian Communications and Media Authority pointers state that consent may be implied, comparable to when an individual is a keen participant in an interview.

ACMA accepted that on this case by answering some questions from the ACA Reporter and by not declining to talk to them, the Employer was a ‘keen participant’ within the interview.
